Lebanon, June 21, 2012:  Cathy Osten, Finance Officer for American Legion Joseph St. Germaine Post 85 in Baltic, was elected Historian for American Legion District 5 (New London County) at the 5th District Meeting held at Lebanon Post 180 on June 21.

Allen Iott relieved Paul Spedaliere as the 5th District Commander of New London County at that meeting, as well, and his first order of business was to appoint the new historian, who ran unopposed.

According to Spedaliere, the District Historian is “responsible for compiling a complete historical record for the district.”

Spedaliere said, “I’m very pleased that Cathy [Osten] volunteered for this position. Most people think that getting involved in the District is hard and you are alone in your position, but the 5th District is about working as a team, helping each other out. Also, it is good for Post 85 Baltic as they are making a comeback as a post.”

Osten was thrilled to have been chosen to represent the District, “I think it’s great,” she said, “because it gets me involved in the day to day historical aspects of the American Legion.”
