Regional:  On Friday, July 20, 2012, the Service Employees International Union’s State Council (SEIU), representing health care workers, public employees, janitors and community college professors and staff, endorsed Sprague First Selectman Cathy Osten for State Senate in Connecticut’s 19th District.

SEIU Connecticut State Council has 2300 members in the 19th Senatorial district.

David Pickus, President of the Service Employees International Union’s State Council said:

“Today SEIU voted to endorse Cathy Osten for State Senate in the 19th District. Cathy will make a great Senator because she is a tireless advocate for the people she represents. We know that because she successfully formed a union for correction officers during the Rowland Administration. She constantly fought for fairness and dignity on the job. Working families in the 19th Senatorial district will have a champion in their corner as she fights for a fair economy, jobs and good services.

Osten said she is honored to receive the SEIU endorsement, praising the services provided by union members, “These members care for the sick, protect us, teach our children, work on and in our public buildings and do so much more,” she said. “They are a diverse group of men and women who make our day to day lives better and I thank them for their support.”

Osten is running for State Senate in the 19th District, with the support of retiring State Senator Edith Prague.
